Island Sanctuary The visitor's centre has a pamphlet on the island sanctuary where there are kangaroos, possums, bats, and birds aplenty amidst river red gum. It contains the burial site of 'Old Jack', a member of the Melville gang, bushrangers who visited Deniliquin in 1851.
Waring Gardens Waring Gardens, in Cressy St (the main thoroughfare), were originally a chain of lagoons associated with the Edward River. The park was established in 1881 and named after Deniliquin's first town clerk. A bridge was built and a band rotunda added in 1887. Numerous Moreton Bay figs, palms, willows and other trees date from the 19th century.
Ute on pole In celebration of the nationally reknowned Deni – Play on the Plains Festival & World Record Ute Muster the community erected the symbolic and one of a kind ute on a pole. Situated on the edge of the beautiful Edward River and beside the National Bridge, this iconic symbol attracts hundreds of tourists every year. Built back in 2001 the ute on the pole with the classic Holden WB on the top cannot be missed and confirms that Deniliquin is the Ute Capital of the World.
Long Paddock River Walk From as early as the 1840’s a large section of what is now known as the Cobb Highway, was recognised as the best route for the movement of stock. Now you can experience the stories, trials and triumphs in the launch of the Long Paddock!
The Long Paddock is a collaborative community capacity building project to develop and market the regions cultural and tourism assets through innovative themed interpretation of its droving, pastoral and transport heritage.
Deniliquin's interpretive panels are situated on a lovely river walk beginning at the Peppin Heritage Centre and concluding at the Island Sanctuary .
Pioneer Garden Centre & Steam Pump Display The Pioneer Steam Museum is located on the Hay RD . The outstanding display of steam engines and pumps is the work of a local identity who has collected , restored and displayed. Exhibits range from large portable steam engines to small hand pumps.
