Deniliquin is an oasis of green on the edge of the Riverine plain, which stretches northwards in what is the flattest land on earth - Welcome to the beginning of the outback.

Deniliquin is situated on the Edward River, in the centre of Riverina sheep station country and on the fringe of the world's largest redgum forest, where bird and wildlife abound.

The natural attractions of the region and the well developed network of forest trails offer you the chance to free your adventurous spirit. Try camping, kayaking, biking, bird watching, swimming, fishing or water-skiing. Or take a trip out to
Conargo and drink in the sunset on the open plains where the uninterrupted landscape allows you to view the natural arc of the earth.

Summers Past: Golden Days in the Sun 1950 - 1970

Australians have had an enduring love affair with the sun and the sea. For those who grew up in Australia in the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's, summer an conjure memories of carefree sunny days by the sea, cricket on the beach and bodysurfing between the flags.

To tap into that vein of nostalgia, the National Archives has developed the photographic exhibition Summers Past: Golden Days in the Sun 1950 - 1970 to recall the Australian summer lifestyle from days gone by. Almost all the images were selected from the Archives' Australian News and Information Bureau collection. This vast archival resource is the legacy of nearly half a century's work by Bureau photographers who reeled off hundreds of thousands of candid snaps of Australians at work and play.

Summers Past: Golden Days in the Sun 1950 - 1970 will be on exhibition at the Peppin Heritage Centre from:
1st August - 27th September 2009
Official Opening will take place on Monday the 3rd of August at 10am.
Entry is by Gold Coin Donation.
